Paul Edie Karstens was born April 7, 1930 to John and Edith (Harding) Karstens in Hardwick, Minnesota. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1948. On September 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Luella Wiese at the Westminister Presbyterian Church in Worthington, Minnesota. Paul was employed by R.E.A. before being activated into the 47th Division through the National Guard in 1951. He served in the Korean War in the 1st Calvary Division as a Sargeant First Class. After his honorable discharge he was employed by the City of Worthington and East Central Electric in Braham. Then he was employed by Interstate Power Company in Elmore, Sherburn and Trimont until his retirement in 1992. He and Lue moved from Sherburn to Trimont in 1984. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing but most of all he treasured time spent with family.

Paul died on Monday evening, November 24, 2008 at Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont, Minnesota at the age of seventy-eight years.

Survivors include his wife, Luella Karstens of Trimont, Minnesota; daughters, Carol Solvik of Spencer, Iowa and Diane (Steve) Hamilton of Lena, Wisconsin; sons, David (Nancy) Karstens of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Doug (Deanna) Karstens of Blythewood, South Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; Gary Worthley, Shari Pettit, Jeff Karstens, Aaron Hamilton, Shane Karstens, Michael Menne, Scott Karstens, Shawn Hamilton, Steve Karstens, Paul Menne, John Karstens, Timothy Menne and Mitchell Karstens; twenty-two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert (Darlene) Wiese of Newton, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Gladys Weibel and Adelia (Russell) Hawkinson both of Worthington, Minnesota, Linda Warden of Rochester, Minnesota, Alice Kansanback of Windom, Minnesota and Shirley Karstens of Cambridge, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Karstens; sister, Mavis Poppen; one great-grandson, Christopher; brothers-in-law, Harold Wiese, Clarence Wiese, Jerry Warden, Jerry Weibel, Arnold Kansanback and son-in-law, Olaf Solvik and other relatives.

Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in rural Trimont, Minnesota.
