Leatha Pearl Tack was born October 12,1908 on a farm near Greene, Iowa. Her parents were Jacob and Mary (Hurd) Tack. She was a graduate of Greene High School and taught elementary grades in rural schools in the area from 1928—1936. On September 8, 1936 she married Ivan Belthius at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in several towns in Iowa where Ivan worked in grocery stores. Ivan passed away May 20, 1979 while they were living in Waterloo, Iowa. In June of 1995 Leatha moved to Welcome, Minnesota. Leatha was a homemaker and especially enjoyed being with family and friends, cooking, baking bread and rolls, oil painting, flower gardening, playing cards and traveling. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome and the Women’s Guild.

Leatha died on Tuesday evening, November 25, 2008, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minnesota at the age of 100.

She is survived by two daughters, Marlene Abel and husband, Edwin of Welcome, Minnesota and Darlene Chilson and husband, John of Longmont, Co. Two grandsons, David Chilson and partner Karen Kavnar of Lyons, Colorado and Paul Chilson and wife, Kari of Longmont, Colorado; three granddaughters, Lori Andera and partner Anthony Crumb of Rose Creek, Minnesota, Kristi Patschke and husband Russell of Prescott, Wisconson and Joy Chilson Foy and her husband, Brian of Fort Collins, Colorado; one granddaughter-in-law Tasha Abel of Fairmont, Minnesota. She is also survived by nineteen great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Tack of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, parents Jacob and Mary, sister Velma Brinkman. Brothers Clarence Tack, Darrell Tack and Harold Tack. One grandson Jeffrey Abel, brother-in-law Theodore Brinkman, sisters-in-law Dorothy Tack and Lucille Tack.

There will be a Scripture and Prayer Service on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 2:15 p.m. at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, Iowa with Pastor Lynne Busch officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:15 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, Iowa. There will be a time of Fellowship right after the graveside services at the American Legion in Greene, Iowa.
