Leila Mae Carlson was born June 17, 1929 to Roland and Josie (Jacobsen) Carlson on a farm in Cedar Township, Martin County, Minnesota. She attended country school in Cedar Township until moving to a farm near Sherburn. Leila then attended country school in Manyaska Township. She then attended and later was a 1947 graduate of Sherburn-Dunnell High School. Leila was employed at M.N.Johnson Merchantile Store in Sherburn and later for Al Menke and Ken Nelson at the Fox Lake Ballroom. On October 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to Curtis Olson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. After their marriage, they lived on a farm west of Trimont in Cedar Township. They later moved to a farm in Elm Creek Township until moving into Sherburn in 1971. Leila was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, it’s ladies aid, served on the funeral serving committee for over twenty years, served on it’s Altar Guild and was a Sunday School Teacher for over twenty years. She greatly enjoyed quilting and baking.

Leila died on Tuesday morning, December 9, 2008 at Immanuel-St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota at the age of seventy-nine years.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-years, Curtis Olson of Sherburn, Minnesota; two sons, Kurt Olson of Sherburn and Karl Olson and wife, Deb, of Sherburn; grandchildren, Derek Olson and fiancée, Ashley Daberkow, Christopher Knox and his wife, Christi, Michael Johnson, Zachary Olson, Tony Connors, Eric Olson, Christina Olson and Brian Olson; two great-grandchildren, Reese Addison Olson and Elizabeth Ann Knox; sister, Dolores Peterson of Trimont, Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Olson and wife, Elaine, of Trimont and Burton Olson and wife, Mabel, of rural Mountain Lake, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews and foster grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Leila was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law, Albert Peterson and Lester Olson and wife, Doris; and other relatives and friends.


Interment will be in the Sherburn Cemetery in Sherburn, Minnesota.
