Joseph Tony Harding was born January 25, 1928 on a farm in Jackson County, near Bergen, Minnesota to Charles and Katherine (Grandis) Harding. Joe grew up near Bergen and attended county school until the 8th grade. He then worked on the family farm. On February 16, 1951, Joe was drafted into the United States Army serving in the Korean War where he was awarded several medals. He was honorable discharged on February 6, 1953 and later moved to Oregon and then to Redwood City, California. In November of 1966, Joe was united in marriage to Lillian Pikok at Reno, Nevada and to this union one son was born, Jody. In 1971, Joe and his family moved back near Bergen onto the Harding farm. He was employed as a welder at Toro Company in Windom until his retirement. After the death of his wife, along with his son, they moved to Montevideo where Joe was employed for a manufacturing plant. Joe then moved to Mountain Lake and then to Darfur. In July of 2002, he has made his home at Golden Living Center in Wabasso. Joe was a very pleasant man, who greatly enjoyed gardening, watching TV especially baseball games, listening to western music, playing cards, and socializing with his friends. He will also be remembered for his kindness and generosity.

Joe died on Monday morning, February 2, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Wabasso, Minnesota, at the age of eighty-one years.
 
Survivors include his son, Joseph “Jody” Harding of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two nieces and three nephews and other relatives and friends.
 
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lillian, sister, Elizabeth (Henry) Leach; two brothers, William and Franklin Harding and other relatives.



Interment will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery near Bergen, Minnesota.
