| | | Loraine Clara Anna Garlisch was born on April 19, 1917 to Henry and Mamie (Hoelmer) Garlisch on the family farm in Cedar Township, Martin County, Minnesota. She was baptized by her Uncle, Reverend John Porisch and later was confirmed on May 11, 1931 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Galena Township by Reverend Paul Affeldt. As a small child their family moved to Triumph, Minnesota. She attended first and second grades in Triumph School. Upon moving back to the farm she attended District #34 third through eighth grades. In 1935, Loraine graduated from Triumph High School and then attended Mankato Commerical College. Loraine and James Grussing were married on August 25, 1940 in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Elna and husband, Richard Olson which was officated by Rev. Paul Affeldt at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Galena Township, rural Ormsby, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed in Cedar Township, retiring on the farm in 1974. Jim died on August 24, 1987. Loraine remained on the farm until the fall of 1993 when she moved into Maplewood Apartments in Fairmont. Loraine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont and it’s ladies aid or LWML, (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
On Saturday morning, April 25, 2009, Loraine died at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minnesota at the age of ninety-two years.
Loraine is survived by her son, Paul (Carolyn) Grussing of rural Fairmont, Minnesota; daughters, Kay Cutler of Worthington, Minnesota and Linda (Chris) Brand of Deer Creek, Minnesota; son-in-law, Russell Jensen of rural East Chain, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and sister, Elna Olson of Fairmont, Minnesota and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Grussing; daughter, Ann Jensen, brother, Walter (Selma) Garlisch other relatives and friends.
Interment will be in Cedar Lutheran Cemetery, rural Trimont, Minnesota.
