| | | Lloyd Franklin Hartke was born on January 2, 1926 to Martin and Mabel (Bettin) Hartke at Monterey, Minnesota. He received his education in Triumph-Monterey Schools. On December 29, 1943, he entered the United States Navy serving until his honorable discharge on June 2, 1946. Lloyd was employed as a trucker before and after the service working with his father at Martin Hartke & Sons. On February 26, 1948, Lloyd was united in marriage to Lois Russenberger at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont, Minnesota. He later owned and operated his own business, Hartke Truck Line transporting livestock, machinery, fresh produce, corn and beans. He retired in 2002. Lloyd will be remembered for his love of his family, traveling and his work ethic and his love for trucking. Winters were spent at their home in Mission, Texas. Lloyd was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post #373 both in Trimont.
On Saturday morning, May 9, 2009, Lloyd died at 12:45 a.m. at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of eighty-three years.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Lois Hartke of Trimont, Minnesota; his four daughters, Joy Renee (Michael) Kuehl of Truman, Minnesota, Jolene (David) Sheppard of Mankato, Minnesota, Marsha (Steve) Penner of Mountain Lake, Minnesota and Naomi (Bob) Koch of Fairmont, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joan Hartke of Mesa, Arizona, Lorraine Rippel of Winona, Minnesota, Thelma Russenberger of Trimont, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert and Donald Hartke; brothers-in-law, Edwin Russenberger, James Rippel; sister-in-law, Jeanette Hartke and other relatives.
Interment will be in Cedar Lutheran Cemetery in rural Trimont.
TRUCKER'S PRAYER:
Lord please help me be safe as I travel each mile
Let your presence guide me and bring me a smile
Take care of my family while I am away
Let them know I miss them each and every day
Steer me clear of danger as I cross the country alone I put my hands in yours Lord keep me safe, get me home.
