  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

MARJORIE MAE SPEEDLING
Marjorie was born the third daughter of George R. and Myrtle (Hall) Stanley on September 8, 1917 in Madison County, south of Dexter, Iowa. She died at the Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa on November 1, 2008 at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 24 days.
Marjorie grew up a Stanley farm girl and attended mostly rural schools. She learned to work early in life and helped out in many homes in the area. On October 15, 1936 she and Ralph Speedling were united in marriage in Greenfield, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children: Caryl L. and Gary E. Marjorie and Ralph farmed in Adair and Guthrie counties near Casey. Due to health reasons in 1972 they retired to a home in Casey. After celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, Ralph died in 1986. Marjorie worked for 10 years at Mary’s Café in Casey as a cook. She was well known for her homemade noodles and her homemade pies. A few years later Marjorie moved to Dexter, where she lived until she moved to Community Care in Stuart.
Marjorie is survived by her son Gary Speedling and wife Sandy of Earlham; sisters Opal Brink of Omaha, NE; Mildred LeMar and husband Joe of Stuart; Louise Kading and husband Earl of Surprise, AZ; Ruby Hodges and husband Harley of Des Moines; and Esther Lister of Adel; son-in-law Larry Taylor of Omaha, NE; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents George and Myrtle Stanley, husband Ralph, daughter Caryl Taylor, sister Mary Stanley, brothers Gerald and Gene “Pete” Stanley.

On the Wings of Prayer

Just close your eyes and open your heart
And feel your worries and cares depart.
Just yield yourself to the Father above
And let Him hold you secure in His love—
For life on earth grows more involved
With endless problems that can’t be solved—
But God only asks us to do our best.
Then He will “take over” and finish the rest—
So when you are tired, discouraged and blue,
There’s always one door that is open to you—
And that is the door to “the house of prayer”
And you’ll find God waiting to meet you there.
And “the house of prayer” is no farther away
Than the quiet spot where you kneel and pray—
For the heart is a temple when God is there
As we place ourselves in His loving care.
He hears every prayer and answers each one
When we pray in His name “Thy will be done”—
And the burdens that seemed too heavy to bear
Are lifted away on “the wings of prayer”.
Helen Steiner Rice

*************

When I pass on, I want no grief, My dears,
No sadness in the hearts of those I’ve loved;
I would but feel that in this world of tears
I’ve helped to dry a few throughout the years!
