Willard Griffith, 83, of Stuart (formerly from Redfield) passed away
February 1, 2009 at the Community Care Center in Stuart.
He was born on January 4, 1926 in rural Dallas County, Iowa. He
lived in
the Adel and Redfield area most of his life, graduating from Adel High
School in 1943. He married Betty Manders, also an Adel Class of ʼ43
grad, in Adel on February 22, 1946.
He worked for a grocery store in Waukee, the Adel Locker,
Anderson-Erickson Dairy, and DX Oil Company. He owned and operated the
DX Station in Redfield along with tank wagon delivery before taking over
as owner/operator of the Redfield Locker Service from his parents. He
also was a school bus driver for the schools in Redfield and officiated
high school athletics. After selling the locker and retiring, he
returned to work part-time as an insurance agent with the Shaw-Belden
Agency in the Dexter and Stuart offices.
Willard will be missed by his wife Betty Griffith; two children: Cary (Kris) of Nashua and
Leonard (Janean) of Panora; his 7 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren;
7 great-grandchildren; along with his sister Corrine (Hershel) Thornton
of Liberty, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Roland (Roney) and
Lela
Marie (Peg) Griffith.
Private family services held at the Harper Cemetery north of
Redfield.
