Darlene Helen Pryor was born the daughter of Robert and Ethel (Hartman) McClurg at the family farm in Madison County, Iowa on July 7, 1918. She died at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, Iowa on August 29, 2009 at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 20 days.
Darlene attended and graduated from the DeSoto Community Schools. On August 14, 1943 Darlene and Ivan Pryor were married in Earlham, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Norma Jean and Karen. Following Ivan’s return from WW II, they moved to a farm in the Worthington area of Madison County, Iowa , where they farmed until 1985. Darlene and Ivan moved to Carroll, Iowa to be closer to their daughter Norma Jean. Darlene was a homebody who enjoyed reading and working puzzle and word search books. She was very attentive to visiting with Norma Jean and seeing to her needs. Darlene and Ivan did some traveling in the early years and spent time at Black Hawk Lake camping and fishing. Ivan died in 2005 and Darlene’s vision became such that she was not able to get out but was able to maintain her home in Carroll.
Darlene is survived by her daughters: Norma Jean of Glidden, Iowa, Karen Horman and husband Paul of Crossville, TN, granddaughters: Kimberly Horman of Baltimore, MD and Heather O’Kane and husband Jason of Columbia, SC.

Mother Has Fallen Asleep
Mother was tired and weary,
Weary with toil and pain;
Put by her glasses and rocker,
She will not need them again;
Into Heaven’s mansions she’s entered,
Never to sigh or weep,
After long years with life’s struggles,
Mother has fallen asleep.
Near other loved ones we laid her,
Low in the ground to lie,
And though our hearts are broken,
Yet we would question why;
She does not rest ‘neath the grasses,
Though o’er her dear grave they creep,
She has gone into the kingdom,
Mother has fallen asleep.
Rest the tired feet now forever,
Dear wrinkled hands are so still;
Blast of the earth shall no longer,
Throw o’er our loved one a chill;
Angels though Heaven will guide her.
Jesus will still bless and guide her,
Mother has fallen asleep.
Beautiful rest for the weary,
Well deserved for the true,
When our life’s journey is ended,
We shall all be with you;
This helps to quiet our weeping,
Hark angel music so sweet;
He giveth to his Beloved,
Beautiful, Beautiful Sleep.
