Betty Ruth Woeckner Foust

Betty left this world to join her loving husband Gordon (1919-2005) of 63 years and their daughter Patricia on Sunday, November 27, 2011. Betty was born on August 6, 1920 to Arthur and Margaret Thelen Woeckner in Chicago, IL.

Betty was the valedictorian of her graduating class of St. Mary’s Springs Academy in 1937. She loved her four years at the boarding school and the close friends she made there. She graduated with high honors from Oshkosh Teachers College (UWO) in 1941.

She married Gordon Lee Foust on January 27, 1942 at St. Mary’s Church in Oshkosh. She dedicated her life to her family. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Betty enjoyed playing contract bridge in several bridge groups with her many dear friends. She last entertained friends for bridge at her home on November 16th. Her other interests included flower gardening, bird watching, reading and playing a variety of games. Betty is a member of the Cook-Fuller Unit 70 American Legion Auxiliary. She is a past member of the Oshkosh Bird Club and St. Mary’s Parish Council of Catholic Women.

Betty leaves behind her beloved children, Gordon Jr. (Jean) Foust of Oshkosh, Donna (Daniel) Brooks of Waukesha, Steven (Carla) Foust of Oshkosh, Carole Foust of Oshkosh, Patricia Foust (1952-2001), Gregory (Barbara) Foust of Oshkosh, Jeffrey (Carol) Foust of Oshkosh, and Gary Foust of Oshkosh.

Her cherished grandchildren are Brian (Melanie) Foust; Danielle Brooks, Robin (Patrick) Brooks-Drake, Daniel (Amber) Brooks III; Vicki Booher, Corey (Tracy) Sphatt, Gina (Matthew) Knudsen; Kimberly and Michael Foust; Connor Foust and Christy Lee Foust.

Betty’s very special great grandchildren are Elias and Henry Foust; Jennifer (Jordan) Perala, Isabella, Sophia, Julianna, Mariah and Baby Drake due February 2012 and Elizabeth Brooks; Matthew, Gabriella and Jacob Knudsen, Talia and Sydney Booher, Kamm and Callie Jean Sphatt.

Betty felt blessed to hold her first great-great-grandchild Lilly Perala this past summer.

Other relatives and close friends left to mourn Betty are her sibling Sister Patricia Michaelin Woeckner O.S.F. of Milwaukee, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vernon (Lynn) Foust of Oshkosh, nieces: Penny (Burt) Schmidt, Dawn (Mike) Bernier, nephews: Roger (Linda) Foust and Malcom (Kathy) Foust. Her life long friend Violet Zweiger and her domino buddy Bev Steinike.

In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. She will have her ashes joined with those of her dear husband. A private family burial will take place in spring. They will be buried next to their cherished daughter Pat.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Al-bitar, Dr. Pulakandum and the wonderful staff at Mercy Medical Center in the E.R., ICU and on the first floor for their compassionate care during Betty’s last week. A special thank you to Father William Van De Kreeke. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s for 64 years. For the past 18 years she has been a member of St. Jude’s Church (St. John/St. Vincent).
