John "Bill" W. Jenkins, age 76, of Sabula, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at the Genesis Medical Center – East in Davenport, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2009, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Sabula, Iowa, with a short prayer service to be held at 5:00 p.m. Memorial may be directed to the Sabula Fire and Ambulance Service.

John was born on October 15, 1932, in Fulton, Iowa, the son of Ferris and Frances (Myer) Jenkins. John proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Rita Jorgenson on December 26, 1975, in Dubuque, Iowa.

John was a heavy equipment operator for the Midwest Operators and Engineers Local 537 and 150, District 8, retiring in 2003. He was a Union Lifetime Member Gold Card Carrier. John was a member of the Sabula American Legion Post #0074.

John is survived by his wife Rita Jenkins of Sabula, Iowa; four daughters, Debra (Gary) Hays of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Melody (Jeff) Loy of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Teena Thayer of Savanna, Illinois, and Michelle Marshall of Sabula; six sons, John (Robbie) Jenkins Jr. of Clinton, Iowa, Tom (Kitty) Jenkins of Clinton, Kevin (Peg) Jenkins of Camanche, Iowa, David (Dorene) Lee of Sabula, Thomas (Sandy) Lee of Brookfield, Wisconsin, and Scott (Polly) Lee of Lyndon, Illinois; twenty one grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, David Jenkins and Bobby Staver.
