Mary Jean Mowat, age 91, of Davenport, Iowa, died on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Iowa Masonic Health Facility, Davenport, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston. Burial will take place in the Miles Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Risen Christ Lutheran Church or American Alzheimer’s Association in Mary’s memory.

Mary was born on April 3, 1928, the daughter of Herman and Winifred (Slade) Hass at their home in Miles. She attended Miles High School and graduated with the Class of 1945. Mary was married to Arthur Mowat on June 23, 1946.

Mary was a sales secretary for Clinton Engines, Maquoketa, Iowa and Central Steel in Camanche, Iowa. She also worked for Kartridge Pak in Davenport, Iowa for eighteen years, retiring in 1988. Mary enjoyed playing cards, especially 500 and Euchre. She also enjoyed flower gardening. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family and friends.

Mary will be dearly missed by her husband of 63 years, Arthur of Davenport; two daughters, Sharon (Charles) Marcucci of Aurora, Illinois and Beth Alexander of Davenport; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Helen Evans of Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her parent; two sisters, Lois Rittmer and Ruth Weller; and one brother, Kenneth Hass.
