Joyce L. Keim, age 80, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, October 10, 2009, at her home in rural Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Harkness officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, at the Frank – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be directed to the Carroll County Humane Society or the Illinois 4 – H Foundation.

Joyce was born March 7, 1929, in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Luella (Smith) Wise. She graduated from the Mt. Carroll High School with The Class of 1947. Joyce married Lowell Keim on September 4, 1949, at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church.

Together, Joyce and Lowell dairy farmed in the Mt. Carroll area, and were longtime purebred Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders. Joyce worked as a hairdresser and dental assistant in Mt. Carroll. She also worked in the soil testing lab for the Carroll County Farm Bureau. Joyce was a member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Palisades Art League and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed painting and drawing, gardening and decorating her home. Joyce loved the time she spent with her dogs and other animals on the farm.

Joyce is survived by her husband Lowell Keim of Mt. Carroll; two sons, Chris (Ann) Keim of Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, and Curt (Jo Ellen) Keim of New Berlin, Illinois; four grandchildren, Dr. Sarah (Dr. Mark Klebanoff) Keim of Kenzington, Maryland, Dr. Rebecca (Dr. Nathan Pruitt) Keim of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Aaron (Nicole) Keim of Broomfield, Colorado, and Katie Keim of New Berlin, Illinois; and one great granddaughter, Claire Garnet Pruitt of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Shirley Hoak and Phyllis Elliott.
