Rensselaer- Lester H. Bashant, Sr. age 99 yrs. of Munger Street passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday November 29, 2008. He was born in Tupper Lake and has resided in Rensselaer since 1943. Mr. Bashant was employed as a fireman for the NYC Railroad and worked for St. John’s Church Rensselaer, St. Mary’s Church Clinton Heights and the Rensselaer City School District as a bus driver retiring at the age of 70. He was a member of the Nocturnal Society and a former member of the Rensselaer Council #267 K of C. Husband of the late Grace Carrow Bashant. Father of Lester Jr (Lorraine) Bashant of Clinton Hgts, Monica Ann Bashant of Rensselaer, Carol (James) McGaughen of Delmar, Mary Lee Brown of Ballston Spa, Charlie (Jackie) Bashant of Latham, Alan (Julie) Bashant of Rensselaer, Elizabeth (Paul) Bahm of Ballston Lake and the late Nancy Hoffman. Brother of Teresa Wolfe. Brother-In-Law of Sr. Alice Carrow, Sisters of the Holy Ghost. Also survived by 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Tuesday morning at 9:30 and 10:30 at St. John’s Church Herrick Street Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-8 PM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. The Bashant family would like to thank the Rensselaer County Community Hospice for the compassionate loving care along with his daughter Monica who gave him the “Cadillac of Care” which enabled him to stay at home.
