| | | Funeral services for Ricky Lee Baird will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the Waynoka School with Mike Marsalis officiating. Interment will be in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Waynoka.
Ricky Lee Baird, son of Rex Ivan and Carolyn Sue (Nusser) Baird, was born September 13, 1972, at Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away March 14, 2009, near Waynoka, Oklahoma, at the age of 36 years, 4 months, and 1 day.
Ricky graduated from Waynoka High School. He then attended Oklahoma State University at Oklahoma City and had almost completed his Law Enforcement degree. On March 12, 1994, he was united in marriage to Michelle DeAnn Hougland at Alva. They lived in Alva where he worked as an Alva Police Officer, and then to Perry where he worked for the Perry Police Department and Noble County Sheriff’s department. In 2001, they moved to their home southeast of Waynoka where he worked for the Woods County Sheriff's Department, then later at the Little Sahara State Park. He was a welder by trade, but his heart was in law enforcement.
He was a member of the Elm and Murrow Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but was particularly devoted to his music. He was an accomplished guitarist, singer, and songwriter and was planning to record some of his original music.
Ricky is survived by his wife, Michelle Baird of Waynoka; two sons, Andrew Blake Baird of Waynoka, and Conner William Baird of Waynoka; two step daughters, Laci Sandefur of Oklahoma City and Chelci Sandefur of Stillwater; his parents, Rex Ivan and Carolyn Baird, of Waynoka; his sister, Sherry Shklar and husband, Michael, of Pratt, Kansas; his paternal grandfather, Forrest Rex Baird and his wife, Helen, of Waynoka; his maternal grandparents, Dean and Patty Nusser, of Alva; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to a fund for Andrew and Conner’s education.
