Neva Mae Bouse, the sixth of seven children, was born September 19, 1913, to Norton and Maude Barnett Johnson in Sullivan County, Missouri, and departed this life June 8, 2004, at Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 20 days.

Neva moved to Oklahoma when she was 5 years old. She came with her family on a train and attended school at Twin Oaks in rural Woods County. On March 17, 1931, she married Jesse Edward Bouse in Fairview, Oklahoma. To this union four children were born, Nancy, Leslie, Gerald Lee, and Norton.

Neva Mae was a good Christian wife and mother. She was a hard worker and a helpful friend. She drove a school bus and worked in the lunch room for the Waynoka School for 22 years. She and her husband farmed for 43 years in Major County. She continued to live on the farm as long as she was able. She had a long, happy, productive life with her family and friends. The world is a better place because of her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Gerald Lee; two granddaughters, Alma Bouse and Barbara Lee Griffith; one brother, Wilbur Johnson; five sisters, Ottie Johnson, Amber Hutchison, Ruth Ging, Juanita Curtis, and Eunice Veley; and two daughters in law.

Neva is survived by two sons, Norton Bouse of Waynoka, and Leslie Bouse of Woodward; one daughter Nancy Slater and her husband, Charlie Slater, of Wichita, Kansas; five grandchildren, Stanley Bouse of Tulsa, Cindy Bouse of Colorado, Linda Stewart of Woodward, Charles Slater and his wife, Kim, of Wichita, and Brian Slater and his wife, Cherie, of Wichita; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, at the Waynoka First Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Veal and Rev. David Shaw officiating. Interment will be in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Waynoka.
