| | | Oma Leota Beard, daughter of the late Carl and Rita (Jarvis) Reeder, was born June 7, 1925, at Cache, Oklahoma, and passed away December 26, 2004, at Share Convalescent Center in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 79 years, 6 Months, and 19 Days.
Oma graduated from high school in Caldwell, Kansas and attended Hutch Community College. She lived and worked in Wichita during the war. On September 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Buford Beard at Caldwell, Kansas. After the war, they moved to Gage, Oklahoma where Buford taught school. In 1955 she and Buford moved to Alva where she worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. After the birth of her children she stayed home to take care of them until they started school, then she started working for Central National Bank until her retirement.
She was a member of the Alva Assembly of God Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved in many other activities in the church. She was also a member of Alva Research Club. She loved needlework, flowers, gardening, and playing cards and cooking for her grandchildren. Her love was being with her family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buford; twin infant sons, Larry and Terry; one great grandson, Brenden Campbell; and four brothers, Paul, Walter, George, and Robert Reeder.
Oma is survived by her son, David Beard and his wife, Rinda, of Alva; her daughter, Linda Murry and her husband, Matt, of Alva; one brother, Lloyd Reeder and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Littleton, Colorado; three sisters, Edith Lightfoot of Parsons, Kansas, Ethel Winford of Walla Walla, Washington, and Lois Beran of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren, Tori, Dannielle, Lucas, Nicholas, Emilee, and Megan; one great grandson, Riley; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at the Alva Assembly of God with Pastor Mark Bagley and Reverend Curtis Torrance officiating. Interment will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer?s research.
