| | | Isla Maxine Bay, daughter of Otis Hudson Smith and Anna Ellen Campbell Smith was born near Carmen, Alfalfa County, Oklahoma July 14, 1916, and passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005 in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 22 days.
She attended Star School near her country home and graduated from Carmen High School in 1933. Isla, along with her parents and siblings entertained at numerous musical functions throughout the area. She was an accomplished seamstress and pianist. She also enjoyed textile painting and quilting.
Isla was united in marriage to Elmer Ray Bay on October 14, 1936, in Alva, Oklahoma. They resided on their farm near Carmen until 1945 at which time they moved to Waynoka where Elmer was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad. They also resided for a short time in Clovis, New Mexico, Amarillo, Texas and Borger, Texas, returning to Waynoka in 1976. Due to failing health, Isla moved to Edmond in 2001 to be with her family.
After sixty years of marriage, her husband Elmer preceded her in death on July 13, 1997. In addition, she was predeceased by her three older brothers, Vaughn in June, 1973; Garnett in January, 1983, and Elvin in April, 1995.
Isla is survived by one daughter, Deana Joyce Case and her husband Larry of Edmond; two grandsons, Scott Case and his wife Connie of Suwanee, Georgia, and Jason Case and his wife Beth of Edmond, Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Kyler, Kody and Kallie Case of Suwanee, Georgia; Mason and Chloe Case of Edmond, Oklahoma; one sister, Eula Faye Lewis and her husband Raymond of Guymon, Oklahoma, her sister-in-law, Goldie Bay of Hereford, Texas; and many beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2004, at the Northside Church of Christ with Mike Marsalis officiating. Interment will be in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Waynoka. Isla will be at the church at 11:00 a.m Saturday morning.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Northside Church of Christ or Waynoka Meals-on-Wheels.
