| | | Ruth Maxine Baxter, daughter of the late Alfred and Thelma (Drake) Lord, was born December 28, 1925, in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away August 31, 2005, at Share Convalescent Home in Alva, at the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 3 days.
Ruth lived in Alva until she was 12 years old and then moved to Denver, Colorado. She returned to Alva and graduated from Alva High School with the Class of 1943, after which she attended Northwestern State College.
On July 1, 1944, she was united in marriage to Johnny Baxter and they lived in Alva most of their lives. She worked for Alva General Hospital and Share Medical Center for many years. She also decorated cakes for weddings and special events.
Ruth was a Charter Member of the Alva Assembly of God Church and served in many areas of ministry. She was a very dedicated mother and served for many years on Scouts and PTA.
Ruth and Johnny worked several years in Tulsa, but returned to Alva when they retired. She was active in many ministries in Woodlake Assembly of God in Tulsa. She also was a member of Alva’s Democratic Women, Alva’s Senior Center, and the Red Hat Society. Her life was spent in service to others through her church, nursing, and parenting. She will be missed.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny, on January 28, 2004.
Ruth is survived by her children, Dan Baxter and his wife, Carolyn of Selmer, Tennessee, Beverly Baxter of Kansas City, Kansas, Darrell Baxter and his wife, Sharon of Birmingham, Alabama, Merle Baxter and his wife, Jackie, of Alva, and Mike Baxter and his wife, Julie, of Nashville, Tennessee; and one sister-in-law, Naomi Stites of Canon City, Colorado.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, John and Leah Baxter of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Clint Baxter and Lauren Baxter, both of Jenks, Oklahoma, Jillian Smith of Tulsa, Phillip Baxter of Birmingham, Alabama, Stephanie Baxter of Birmingham, Alabama, Brandon Baxter and Ryan Baxter, both of Nashville, Tennessee; 2 great grandchildren, Landon and Chase Baxter of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2005, at the Alva Assembly of God with Rev. Mark Bagley and Rev. Andrew Strait officiating. Interment will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alva Assembly of God Church, Share Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
