| | | Edna Bernice Buck, daughter of the late Elmer Leroy and Maude Opal (Springer) Hanan, was born October 16, 1915, northwest of Waynoka, and left this life October 15, 2005 in East Windsor, CT, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 29 days.
Edna graduated from Waynoka High School with the class of 1934. She attended Northwestern State College and received her teaching certificate. She taught in the Lone Star School in Major County. On August 13, 1937, she was united in marriage with Delbert L. Buck in Purcell, Oklahoma. To this union were born two children Frank Leroy and Edna Mae who died shortly after birth. Early in life Edna accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized into Him.
After living in Brownwood, TX for a year they returned to Waynoka where they lived, except for one year in Alva, until 1962. At that time Delbert transferred to Albuquerque, NM with the Santa Fe Railroad where they made their home until 1983 when they returned to Waynoka once again. After Delbert's passing in 1998, due to failing health, she moved to Enfield, CT to be near Frank and his family.
Leaving Waynoka she left what had been her primary support system among the brothers and sisters of the Northside Church of Christ but transferred to another within the Connecticut Valley Church where she is equally mourned at her passing. Edna taught Bible Class for children for many years. She also served as president of P. T. A., and led the Cub Scout troop for two years and the Girl Scout troop for two years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by Delbert, her husband of 53 years; infant daughter, Edna Mae; and two brothers Russell Leon and Stanley Leroy Hanan.
Her survivors include her son Frank and wife, Sue, of Enfield, CT; granddaughter, Nicole Mercer and husband, Craig, of Newington, CT; Nicole's children Naomi, Laura, and Nicholas Albani; grandson, David Buck and his wife, Vicki, of Ferndale, WA; their children, Hannah, Dalton, Cole, and Fayth Buck; granddaughter, Sara Buck of Windsor Locks, CT; Sara's children, Derek, Haley, and Reeve Twiss; two sisters-in-law, Billie Hanan of Waynoka and Rachel Hanan of Stillwater; one niece, Peggy Bussey; and three nephews R. L., Scott, and Steve Hanan.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2005, at the Waynoka Northside Church of Christ with Ron Bussey and Mike Marsalis officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Hill Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Waynoka.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to Hope for Haiti's Children, 61 Cook Hill Road, Windsor, CT 06095.
