Edna M. Buckland, daughter of the late George and Mattie (Ferguson) Bixler, was born October 24, 1908, on the farm northwest of Waynoka, and passed away December 12, 2005, at Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 97 years, 1 month, and 18 days.

Edna attended grade school at West Liberty District #71 rural school and graduated Waynoka High School in three years with the Class of 1926 as Valedictorian of her class. She obtained her teaching certificate at Northwestern State Teachers College. She taught in neighboring rural schools six years.

On September 9, 1932, she was united in marriage to Thomas Everett Buckland in Alva, Oklahoma. They lived in the Fairvalley area until 1934 when they purchased a farm northeast of Waynoka. She taught school for two years until they decided to start a family. To this union three children were born, Lenore Jean, Lynn Ross, and Phil Dean. After Phil started school, she taught two years at Rose Valley, then substituted at Waynoka Schools until she was 75.

She helped with the farming and ranching, she and Everett helped with PTA and really supported Waynoka 4-H and FFA. They also were active with the Memorial Hill Cemetery and the Rural Water District.

She was a member of the Avard Christian Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, her daughter, Lenore Jean Ferguson; three brothers, Floyd Bixler, Ralph Bixler, and Ray Bixler; and one granddaughter, Joy Ferguson.

Edna is survived by two sons, Lynn Buckland and his wife, Deanna, of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Phil Buckland and his wife, Sally, of Empire, Colorado; one sister, Gladys Thompson; seven grandchildren, Brenda Borders, Dana Ferguson, Marty Ferguson, VaLynda Porter, Ron Buckland, Mark Buckland, and Brian Buckland; eight great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Memorial Hill Cemetery.
