| | | Funeral services for James Sheldon Barker, age 81, will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2005, at the Elm and Murrow Church of Christ in Waynoka with Darrell Edwards officiating. Interment will be in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.
James Sheldon Barker, son of the late Jesse Ray and Carrie Jane (Camp) Barker, was born July 9, 1924, in Avard, Oklahoma, and passed away March 15, 2006, at his home in Waynoka, at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 6 days.
James graduated from Waynoka High School in 1942. During World War II, Jim served three years in the United States Navy. On May 23, 1950, he was married to Nona Faye Arnold in Alva, Oklahoma. They made their home in Quinlan from 1952 until 1981. During that time Jim worked for the Quinlan Coop, Fenimores Manufacturing, and Fruit of the Loom in Woodward. In 1981, he and Nona moved to St. Martinsville, Louisiana and continued to work for Fruit of the Loom until his returement in 1991, when they moved to Waynoka.
He was a member of the Elm and Murrow Church of Christ. He enjoyed all sports, but especially enjoyed hunting and throwing horseshoes. He also enjoyed all of his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nona; and one sister, Sarah Jane Barker.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Kathy Hull and husband, Gilbert, of Waynoka, and Nancy Parsons and husband, Fred, of Waynoka; two sons, Dennis Barker and wife, Karen of Clinton, Oklahoma, and Donnie Barker of Texas; one brother, John Barker and his wife, JoAnn, of Enid; and one sister, Jeraldine Barnett and her husband, Herman, of Austin, Texas.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Candy and Chris Dial, Tammy Perry, Amanda and Eben Stevens, Jennifer Barker, Robyn Barker, Lisa and Travis George, Todd Parsons, Shawna and Robert Crockett, Brian Hull, and Brent,Brandon and Ira Barker; 11 great grandchildren, Sabrina, Alex, and Ashley Dial, Robert and Adrian Brassfield, Garrison George, Reagan Stevens, Kennedy McKeaigg, McKinley Caldwell, and Kandace and Alaina Crockett; other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Circle of Love Hospice in Enid.
