Graveside services for Rose Mary (Durkee) Kornele, age 57, will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery with Rev. David Shaw, pastor of the Waynoka First Baptist Church officiating. Interment is under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Waynoka.

Rose Mary Kornele, daughter of the late Harry Alton and Jewel Frances (Wray) Durkee, was born July 12, 1949, at Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away suddenly October 7, 2006, at Fairview, Oklahoma, at the age of 57 years, 2 months, and 26 days.

After Rosie graduated from Waynoka High School she received her Bachelors Degree and Master’s Degree in Special Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. On July 11, 1980, she was united in marriage to Jim Kornele at Waynoka, Oklahoma. She taught at Fairfax and Jet-Nash before her retirement.

She attended the Baptist Church. She loved to travel and enjoyed photography.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Durkee, Roy Durkee, Harry Durkee.

Rosie is survived by four brothers, Edward Durkee of Enid, George Durkee and his wife, Betty, of Waynoka, David Durkee of Elkhart, Kansas, and Gary Durkee of Waynoka; two sisters, Bonnie Roth and her husband, Thomas, of Herrington, Kansas, and Nina Durkee of Pasadena, Texas; a niece she helped raise, Karen Quiggle and her husband, Bill, and their son, T.J., of Garland, Texas; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Waynoka Historical Society or Waynoka EMT’s.
