| | | Byron E. (Barney) Allen, son of the late Raymond and Ruth (Newlin) Allen, was born February 28, 1928, in a dugout in Pritchett, Colorado, and passed away December 14, 2006, at Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 16 days.
Barney was raised in Dacoma with two brothers and one sister. He attended Elmont Grade School, graduated from Dacoma High School with the class of 1945, and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University. On August 7, 1949, he was united in marriage to Harriett Herren at Cherokee. They moved to Alva in 1972, where he owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store and drove the Dacoma School bus route for Alva Public Schools. He also helped his son farm and ranch.
He was a member of Alva Masonic Lodge #105 and Scottish Rite Consistory in Guthrie. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, antique V-8 Ford cars, and farming.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Emory and Wayne; and one sister Ina Mae.
Barney is survived by his wife, Harriett, of the home; one son, Mike Allen of Alva, and his grandson, Dalton; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2006, at the Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Clapp, pastor of the Alva Bible Baptist Church officiating. After the service, he will be cremated and burial will follow at a later date. Marshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
