Joseph S. Marsala
Joseph S. Marsala, 84, of Main Street-Barcelona, Westfield, NY, died Friday, August 06, 2004 at Westfield Memorial Hospital in Westfield, New York.
He was born July 16, 1920 in Westfield, New York the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Mutch) Marsala.
Born and raised in Westfield, he was a US Army Veteran of WW II having attained the rank of Sergeant and served with the 449th Fighter Squadron in Burma, Central Burma and India-Burma battles and campaigns. He remained a member of the CBI (China, Burma, India ) Club and the 14th Air Force Fighter Squadron Club.
He returned from the war and relocated to Texas where he was employed by General telephone Company for 28 1/2 years in all phases of telecommunications and retired in 1982 as Supervisor.
He had been active in Boy Scouting in both Texas and Westfield for over 37 years. He returned to Westfield in 1987. He was a member of St. James Major RC Church, Wm. P. Jackway Post 6764 VFW and the John W. Roger Post 327 American Legion, and the Loyal Order of Moose # 118 all of Westfield. He enjoyed Music and was a member of the Deutchmeister Band where he played Guitar, Banjo and some percussion instruments.
Survivors include his wife;
Lucy (Sottile) Marsala of Westfield, NY, Mary V. Probst (Daughter) of San Angelo, TX, Joseph E. Marsala (Son) of Annapolis, MD, James W. Marsala (Son) of Ventura, CA, Kathryn Issler (Step-Daughter) of Westfield, NY, Many grandchildren and Several great Grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Marsala, and his mother, Mary (Mutch) Marsala, Mary C. (Donohoe) Marsala (First Wife), Richard Marsala (Step-Son), George Marsala (Step-Son), Larry Marsala (Brother), John Marsala (Brother), Charles Marsala (Brother), Alfonso Marsala (Brother), Salvatore Marsala (Brother), Eva Liocano (Sister).
Visitation will be at MASON Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM
Funeral services will be held Tueday, August 10, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Major RC Church. Fr. Michael Parker will be officiating. Private burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
