Obituary Notice
Russell Gordon Callahan
Russell Gordon Callahan, age 88, of Cass Street, Westfield, NY, formerly of Wyoming, Michigan, died Saturday, December 18, 2004 at his home in Westfield, New York.
He was born February 19, 1916 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the son of the late
Bernard and Grace (Way) Callahan
A Westfield area resident since 2000, he and his wife moved to Westfield from Wyoming, MI to be with their daughter. He was a graduate of Lee high School of Grand Rapids, MI and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI with his Degree in Education. He taught Industrial Arts at various School in Michigan and retired from the Lee High School District in Lee, MI as a Jr. High Industrial Arts Teacher in 1976.
He was a member of the Beverly Reformed Church, The Michigan Retired Teachers Assoc., and was a former Rotarian. He enjoyed fishing, Cooking, especially Chinese, and Pie Baking. He was an avid animal lover.
He served in the US Navy during World War II having attained the rank of Aviation Chief Metalsmith. He Enlisted on June 26, 1941 at Grand Rapids, MI and was Discharged on October 23, 1945 at SEP CTR/ Great lakes IL.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years
Flavia Fern (Smee) Callahan of Westfield, NY, his daughter; Bonnie Strattan of Westfield, NY, his granddaughter and her husband Sarah K. and Peter Guthrie of Westfield, NY, his other Granddaughter; Anna Marie Strattan of Endicott, NY, and his 2 great grandchildren; Megan and Mason Guthrie of Westfield, NY. He is also survived by his very close friend, Jose Vargas of Westfield.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Callahan, and his mother, Grace (Way) Callahan, and his 2 sisters; Garnett Peters and Donna Rutcoskey .
Visitation will not be observed
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the fmaily in Rosedale Memorial gardens Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
