Ralph Rivera, Sr.



Ralph Rivera, Sr., 74, of W 3rd Street / Covenant Manor , Jamestown, NY, formerly of Westfield, NY, died Thursday, February 03, 2005 at W C A Hospital in Jamestown, New York, following an extended illness.

He was born September 15, 1930 in Coamo, Puerto Rico the son of Eustaquio and Maria (Vazquez) Rivera.

He moved here from Coamo, Puerto Rico and was a resident of Westfield since early 1950's. He had resided in Jamestown for the past 2 years. He was a member of St. James Major RC Church. He had been the owner and operator of Rivera Grocerys on Pearl St. for several years. He had also been employed by various farmers in the area for many years and was an interpreter for the Spanish Community of Westfield and was active in the Westfield Community Center. Legally blind since age 30, he overcame his disability and accomplished many things. He had been President of the Jamestown Blind Association for a few years. He was a social member fo the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion of Westfield. Mr. Rivera, Sr. lived in Jamestown, New York for the past two years and was previously from Academy St., Westfield.

Survivors include his 2 sons;
Ralph G. Rivera, Jr. of Jamestown, NY, and Robert L. Rivera of Alpharetta, GA. His 3 daughters; Gladys Rivera of Westfield, NY, Middalia Kan of Marshburg, PA, Lus Marie Rivera of Jamestown, NY, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive as well as his 10 brothers and sisters : Ramona, Rigoberto, Maria E., Alba, Gloria, Raquel, Urbana, Jose Rafael, Octavio and Maria T. Rivera all of Puerto Rico
He was preceded in death by his wife Confesora, his father, Eustaquio Rivera, and his mother, Maria Vazquez, An infant son and 2 infant daughtersand a brother.

Visitation will be at MASON Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 7, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Major RC Church. Fr. Daniel Young of St. James Major RC Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the St. James Cemetery in Westfield.
