Staff Commander Keith George Mills, NFPD Ret.



Keith George Mills, age 68, of Hardscrabble Rd., Westfield, NY, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, died Sunday, June 12, 2005 at home in Westfield, New York.

He was born May 31, 1937 in Niagara Falls, New York the son of Francis and Mary (Bickler) Mills.

A Westfield resident for the past 15 years, he had previously resided in the Niagara Falls area for most of his life. While in Niagara Falls, he had been employed by the Niagara Falls Police Department in all capacities from patrolman thru the ranks to become the youngest Lieutenant and then youngest Captain to be promoted in the history of the department. When he retired in 1981 he was Staff Commander in charge of direct control over all staff divisions of the department.
He then was appointed Special Investigator to the NYS Organized Crime Task Force of the NYS Attorney General's Office. Prior to his career with the Niagara Falls Police Department he was a NYS Trooper at the Avon Substation. He was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School, The NYS Police Academy, the FBI National Academy as well as many other Law Enforcement Schools and the SUNY Empire College and earned a Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia. He was a member of many law Enforcement Associations where he held an office in most of them.
He was a member of the following: FBI National Academy Assoc., Assoc. of Former NYS Troopers, Southern Police Institute Alumni Assoc., NYOCTF Assoc., Past President and of the Niagara falls Police Captains and Lt.s Assoc., Past Officer and Director of the Niagara Falls Police Club, Past Executive Director of the Niagara Falls Police Athletic League, Past Director of the Nat. Assoc. of Police Athletic Leagues, Past Director of the Assoc. of Lic. Detectives of NYS, past member of the International Assoc. of Chiefs of Police. as well as, a member and past trustee of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 584 of Lewiston, NY, Member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Assoc. the American Legion Post # 1 in Lewiston and the John Rogers Post 327 American Legion of Westfield and the Niagara Falls Kiwanis Club where he was the First Recipient of the Leadership Achievement Award. He was a member of the Town of Westfield Planning Board, Treasure of the Cross Roads Farm and Craft Market, Past President of the Edgewater Condominium Assoc., Co-Owner of Spice Harbor at the Cross Roads Market, and active in the Former Troopers Helping Hands Organization. He was honored with the declaration of a true Kentucky Colonel to which he was invited every year to the Governor’s Barbeque and the Kentucky Derby. Above all though he was a loving husband, father and grandfather and friend.

He served in the Navy during Korean Conflict having attained the rank of SK-2 / Sr. Chief. Enlisted on July 26, 1954 at Buffalo, NY Discharged on May 29, 1958 at San Francisco, CA

Survivors include,
his wife Margaret "Peggy" Mills of Westfield, NY, his sons, Michael K. Mills and his wife Kim of Cleveland, TN, Martin "Marty" S. Mills and his wife Janice of Wilson, NY, Kenneth P. "Ken' Mills and his wife Roseanna of Ransomville, NY, and his only daughter, Kristen Brolinski and her husband Terry of Lewiston, NY, also survived by his 9 grandchildren; Amy Mills and Jonathan Mills both of Lewiston, NY, James Mills of Cleveland, TN, Nicole Forsyth and Alicia Mills (Granddaughter) both of Wilson, NY, Christopher Brolinski of Lewiston, NY, Tom Vance of Ransomville, NY, Joshua Mills of Amherst, NY, and Shannon Mills of Ransomville, NY, 2 Great grandchildren; Maria Rose Vance and Damian Mills both of Ransomville, NY, also survived by his brother Gary A. Mills of Myrtle Beach, SC, and his sister Judith Cyphers of Niagara Falls, NY

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Mills, and his mother, Mary (Bickler) Mills.



Visitation will be at MASON Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7 PM and on Wednesday at Rhoney Funeral Home, Inc., Lewiston, NY from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Thursday at Rhoney Funeral Home, Inc., Lewiston, NY from 2-4 & 7-9 PM

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Fr. Susan Keppy, Rector will be officiating. Burial will be in the Witmer Cemetery in Niagara Falls.
