Obituary Notice
Russell H. VandeVelde
Russell H. VandeVelde, age 82, of Holt Street, Westfield, NY, died Saturday, July 09, 2005 at The Waters of Westfield SNF in Westfield, New York, following an extended illness.
He was born September 25, 1922 in Dunkirk, New York the son of the late Frank and Minnie (Long) VandeVelde.
A Westfield area resident most all his life, he was a graduate of Dunkirk Schools and was a Veteran of WW II serving with the US Army. After the service he was employed by the Army Corp of Engineers on the Great Lakes, Allegheny Ludlum Steel of Dunkirk and retired from National Fuel Gas Corp., in 1984 as a serviceman with over 30 years of service.
He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose #118, the Westfield Fish and Game Club, the American Legion John W. Rogers Post 327 all of Westfield. An avid bowler, he was a former board member and officer in the Dunkirk Bowling Assoc. He had been active in the Chautauqua County Fast Pitch Softball League as a Pitcher. A sports enthusiast, he was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Buffalo Bills and followed all sports both local and professional. He greatly loved his wife, children and grandchildren as well as all his family.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years,
Jennie Riscili VandeVelde of Westfield, NY, his three sons; Thomas VandeVelde of Westfield, NY, Carl VandeVelde of Westfield, NY, and Michael VandeVelde of Westfield, NY, Also survived by his 14 Grandchildren , 4 Great Grandchildren and his sister Arlene Graf of Dunkirk, NY
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank VandeVelde, and his mother, Minnie (Long) VandeVelde, his daughter Carla VandeVelde who died in 1997, his son Russell VandeVelde, Jr., who died in 2004, his granddaughter Jennie VandeVelde who died in 1994, and by his three brothers; Frank VandeVelde, Fred VandeVelde, and Carl VandeVelde.
Visitation will not be observed.
Funeral services will be held privately for the family in the MASON Funeral Home. Burial will take place in St. James Cemetery.
