WESTFIELD-Joseph Dominic Cogliano, Jr., age 77, of Colburn St., Westfield died Thursday, November 10, 2005 at home.

Mr. Cogliano was born May 26, 1928 in Westfield the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Ferro) Cogliano.

A 1947 Graduate of Westfield Academy he earned his teaching Degree at SUNY Fredonia and taught Elementary School at Ft. LeBeouf Schools in Waterford, PA and later at Panama Elementary School. He owned and operated Joe´s Pizza on Portage St. for over 18 years and had been co-owner of the Villager Store on Clinton St. at the old locker plant
for several years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Joe was a father figure to many in our community and truly cared about everyone he came in contact with. He had an uncanny sense of humor and brought a smile when ever needed. He served in the Navy during Korean war.

Mr. Cogliano was a member of St. James Major Roman Catholic Church, and a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus Choir, and was very active in Church affairs including the Spaghetti Supper and the Curley Fries Stand at the Westfield arts and crafts festival. Joe was very active in the Knights of Columbus Free throw Basketball competition for many years.
He was a member of Fr. Daniel Early Council 3100 K of C, where he was a 4th degree Knight. and the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion of Westfield.

Survivors include his wife: Mary P. (Paschke) Cogliano, who he married on August 11, 1951, four daughters: Helen Cogliano of Dunkirk, NY, Carol A. Jablonski of Lakewood, NY, Sharon K. DeTamble of Buffalo, NY, Brenda J. Backus of Westfield, NY. He is also survived by his two sisters: Anita “Anna” Schlichter of Dunkirk, NY, Irene Gittler of Sterling Heights and his brother: Richard Cogliano of Jamestown, NY. 5 grandchildren also survive.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Carl, Frank, Anthony, Sam, and his Infant brother Joe Cogliano,his two sisters, Rose Ardillo and Carmella South.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY and are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday morning at 10 AM at St. James Major Roman Catholic Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield Celebrated by Father Daniel Young. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
