WESTFIELD-Grace E. (Eggert) Kunow, age 83, of Kent Street, Westfield died unexpectedly, Thursday, March 16, 2006 at home.
Mrs. Kunow was born May 29, 1922 in Westfield the daughter of the late Albert R. and Emma M. (Wilson) Eggert.
A lifelong resident of Westfield, she was a 1939 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School and a 1942 Graduate of Bryant and Stratton Business Institute. She was a 71 year member of the First Presbyterian Church and Society where she served as Elder, Deaconess and Church School Teacher. She was a charter member of the Westfield Quilters Guild, a member of the Presque Isle Quilt Club, Westfield Senior Citizens, Westfield YWCA and a former member of Columbine Crown Chapter #128 Order of the Eastern Star. In early years she had been employed as a Secretary by the former Westfield Planters Cooperative, Inc. In 1958 she became Sr. Account Clerk for the Chautauqua County Board of Supervisors and in 1965 she was appointed Deputy Clerk of the Board and served in that position until she was appointed Principle Tax Clerk for Chautauqua County Real property Tax Services, a position she held until her retirement in 1985. Following County retirement, she served as Secretary to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for several years. Grace enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting and quilting.
She is survived by her son: Peter (Joan) W. Kunow of Westfield, NY
her sister: Betty Reid and two brothers: James Eggert and David Eggert and her Grandson, Nigel P. Kunow all of Westfield.
Predeceased by her husband, Station Commander of the East Randolph Barracks, Cpl. Harry E. Kunow, NYSP, who she married in 1954 and who died in 1957.
And her two sisters, Alice E. Deakin and Edna M. Germain
Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 PM at the MASON FUNERAL HOME, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY. and are invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday at 11:00 at the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, with Rev. Dr. Arthur Webster officiating.
Private burial will be in Westfield Cemetery.
