|Retired Army 1st SGT Kirby L. Hunter Jr,, 72, of Daytona Beach, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011.
Kirby was born in Jasper Florida on September 7, 1939 to the late Kirby L. Hunter Sr. and Thelma (Daniels) Hunter. Kirby was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving his country proudly for more than 20 years. During his service he was honored with a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Star of Gallantry. Following his retirement from the Army, Kirby worked as a Project Manager, for Lockheed Martin in Orlando. In his free time he enjoyed playing golf, and watching Auto Racing.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Lieselotte C. Hunter; his parents: Thelma & Kirby L. Hunter Sr.; 1sister: Ava Nell Revell; 2 brothers: Ray Oxendine and Joe Oxendine.
He is survived by his wife: Valerie Hunter; his beloved children: Kirby L. (Karen) Hunter III of Port Orange, Florida, Robert (Lynn) Hunter of Sarasota, Florida, Eveline (Earl) Higgs of Vine Grove, Kentucky, Angela (Kevin) Goodman of Vine Grove, Kentucky; stepdaughters: Lynn Gillis, Alannah (Levi) Newman of Port Orange, Florida; 1sister: Mildred Hunter Smith of Jasper, Florida; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be schedule for a future date.
