Hugh R. “Roger” Baxter, 73, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born June 14, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Donald L. & Zella (Fisher) Baxter.
Roger served for 20 years in the U.S. Army with duty assignments in Germany, Korea and Viet Nam. He was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant in 1993.
Following his military career, he was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal and retired after 30 years of government and military service. He also was employed as a courier for Metropolitan Medical Laboratory.
One of his favorite pastimes was playing golf with his friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his life partner for 17 years, Barbara James of Bettendorf; her children, Heather Brady of Boise, Idaho, Rob James of Davenport, Jessica Bell in Michigan and Justin Pence of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Brandon Brady, Jacob Brady, Tyler Brady, Ryker Brady, Keegan Brady, Kendra James, Stacy James, and Dakota French.
Roger was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
