I only met Smitty one time on the occassion of my daughter's, Elizabeth Knight Smith, marriage to his grandson, Andy. I was very touched at how kind and gracious he was to us folks from that other family in Florida. I had to choke back the tears in reading his glowing obituary. I understand Andy was able to be there to receive his flag at the funeral service. I feel very blessed to have become part of such a special family through the marriage of my daughter to Andrew Michael Smith. My husband, Michael and I will keep him in our prayers as well as all of his loving family that God and his family who have gone before him will welcome him to heaven with loving arms... | From: Linda Knight 10/17/2007 08:42 PM

Many times, it is the little things in life you remember as the most precious. Growing up,( the Iowa days) I remember always looking forward to saturday mornings. It was the day we went to visit Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Warren. Mom would load up me and little sis, stop somewhere along the river for doughnuts and head off to their house. It was wonderful. The grownups talked and the cousins played. On one occassion, Marsha, Barbie (little sis) and I were riding down the stairs on pillows when Uncle Warren , concerned about our safety , showed up at the base of the stairs and boomed out something which mmediately stopped us in our tracks. He sounded serious, yet it seemed to me his eyes were smiling ...
Decades later I can still remember the sound of his voice and the twinkle in his eye ... He loved his Southern Belles and we loved him.
To my cousins Larry, Stu, Marsha and their families, Tim and I send our love. We will have you in our prayers now and in the days ahead.
Much love,
Cathie and Tim

I just wanted to drop a note to let you all know that your extended family is praying for your entire family in the loss of Uncle Warren. It is obvious he loved all of you and was very involved in your daily lives. I am sorry I couldn't be there personally to deliver this message.
God Bless
