Jack Strongbear Anthony, 78, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Friday, August 28, 2009 at his home.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to the Native American Coalition of the Quad-Cities, P.O. Box 54, Moline, Illinois 61265.
He was born February 19, 1931 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Fred & Ruth (Moyer) Anthony. Jack was a U.S. Navy veteran and was honorably discharged on December 1, 1953.
He was employed as a truck driver and fork lift operator for the John Deere Company and retired after over 30 years of service.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Quad-City League of Native Americans for 10 years, served as an Advisory Council member of the Blackhawk League of Native Americans for 4 years and was a current member of the Native American Coalition of the Quad-Cities.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Karin (Pete) Hayden of Bloomfield, New Mexico; his son, Donald Anthony of Patton, California; four grandchildren; his sisters, Shirley (Charlie) Box of Sherrard, Illinois and Doris (Tom) Nipper of Seaton, Illinois; and his brothers, Charles “Roy” (Leona) Anthony of Rock Island and Norman (Wilma) Anthony in Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
