Glenn E. Maynard, 82, a resident of Princeton, Iowa died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family. Glenn was born July 3, 1927 in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of Lee Edwin and Leona Emily (Klabunde) Maynard. He was united in marriage to Lila Rose Austin on November 30, 1952 in Clinton, Iowa. When he was in high school, Glenn was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country during WWII. In later years he was presented his high school diploma at the Clinton High School in a ceremony presided by the Governor of Iowa. Glenn drove a semi-tractor trailer for sixty years and on March 15, 2007 he was awarded the Golden Achievement Award for sixty years for driving truck from the American Historical Society and was also featured in Truckers Magazine.He was an owner/operator for many of those years. He also drove for numerous trucking firms throughout the years. Although Glenn and Lila never had children of their own they did help raise seven children of friends and family. He was a member of the Bolls Community Center in Princeton, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, camping and loved to make things in his shop. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lila; his sister Erma Lucille (Franklin A.) Baldwin of Ruidoso, New Mexico; his niece, Michelle (Baldwin) Smith of Ruidoso, New Mexico; his nephew, Bruce Baldwin of Longmont, Colorado; one very special friend and several other close friends.
