| | | James W. Hurt, 82, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 23, 2009 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2921 38th St., Rock Island, Illinois where he was a faithful member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the building fund of the First Church of the Nazarene.
He was born April 1, 1927 in Mystic, Iowa, the son of Daniel & Lucille (Foster) Hurt.
Jim worked for the Oscar Mayer Company of Davenport, retiring in 1980 after 30 years of faithful service.
While living at the Lend-A-Hand and later at Peterson Commons, he found it easy to make friends as Jim “never met a stranger.” He was a quiet, gentle man who loved the Lord and also enjoyed listening to gospel music
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Sharon Harper of Lincoln, Illinois, Linda Martin of Bettendorf and Tammy (Fred) Wilkinson of Union, Kentucky; his son, Bill (Tana) Hurt of Davenport; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Gerri (Kent) Bowers of Davenport; and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
His sister, Dorothy Reynolds and his brothers, Floyd, Joe, Lester, Elmer, Howard & Franklin preceded him in death.
