Marvin D. Thobe, 73, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the Davenport Good Samaritan Nursing Center.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 2, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Davenport Good Samaritan Nursing Center.
He was born January 3, 1936 in Davenport, the son of Erwin & Mildred (Naugle) Thobe and was a graduate of Davenport High School. In 1966 he was united in marriage to Mary Condon in Davenport.
Marvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Specialist 4th Class in 1961.
He was employed at the former Geifman’s Food Store, the former Jo-Van’s Food Store and at Suburban Landscaping. Marvin was also the former owner of Flowers by Jerri of Davenport.
Marvin was an accomplished landscaper who took great pride in his yard & garden, as well as the yards of others. His family will always remember how much Marvin loved decorating his home for Christmas, a tradition he enjoyed for many years. He was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Davenport.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Tricia Thobe of Bettendorf and Amy Thobe of Davenport; his grandchildren, Camile & Nathan Thobe; his sisters, Phyllis Iossi of Davenport and Beverly Quested of Orlando, Florida; and his brother, Duane Thobe of Prescott, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Davenport Good Samaritan Nursing Center and to Dr. Andrew Edwards for their compassion and care given to Marvin.
