| | | LaVerna Mae Reaves, 87, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital. Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the New Life Baptist Church, Davenport 7780 W. Locust St. Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the New Life Baptist Church.
LaVerna was born June 24, 1922 in Farmington, Iowa the daughter of Earl and Florence (Boyer) Skinner. She was united in marriage to Elmer D. Reaves in Andalusia, Illinois on June 22, 1962. He preceded her in death in 1983.
LaVerna worked as a Forman for the Airtress Midland Company and later as a secretary for the Bendix Corp.
She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary Post 9128 in Bettendorf, Iowa.
She enjoyed camping and fishing. In her younger years she trained horses and gave riding lessons for American Saddle Horses at the Mississippi Valley Fair, Mississippi Valley Riding Stables and Blackhawk Trails Riding Club in Moline.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Larry (Joann) Gillaspie, Davenport, Iowa, Sharon (James) Deters, Ferryville, Wisconsin, Bob (Candy) Reaves, Davenport, Iowa, Jim (Kay) Reaves, Fresno, California, Tim Reaves, Davenport, Iowa
Bill (Kris) Reaves, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Roy Reaves, Davenport, Iowa, Pauline Reaves, Davenport, Iowa and George Reaves, Davenport, Iowa; her fourteen grandchildren; her twenty-three great-grandchildren; her five great-great-grandchildren and her brother, Thomas Skinner, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, her daughters, Carolyn Sue Gillaspie, and Karen Fritz, her son Eugene Gillaspie, her granddaughter Rebecca Deters, her niece Victoria Skinner, her brothers, Donald and Dale Skinner and her friend Lother Hamann.
