| | | Robert D. Wilson, 79, a resident of Bettendorf, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Riverview Manor in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, September 20, 2010 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or to the Salvation Army.
Robert was born on April 2, 1931 in Taylorville, Illinois, the son of Jesse C. & Laura Hazel (Evans) Wilson. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the United States Air Force in the 5010th Maintenance Squadron. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He earned his Bachelors Degree in High Voltage Electricity from the University of Illinois.
Robert was united in marriage to Shirley A. Armstrong on December 27, 1957 in LeRoy, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2003.
He was retired from Iowa/Illinois Gas & Electric where he was an electrical engineer for thirty-five years. Among the things he enjoyed were the outdoors, hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Barton, of Peoria, Illinois.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
