Chassell/Hancock
Henry H. Heikkinen, 91, a former resident of Chassell and presently a resident of Lakeview Manor in Hancock passed away Friday evening April 3, 2009, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Facility in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past three weeks.
Henry Herman Heikkinen born to Mary Knuuttla and Charles Heikkinen on June 16, 1917. As a child, he attended the Hancock Schools.
Mr. Heikkinen has also resided in Hancock, Portage Entry, and for the past 2 years has made his home at Lakeview Manor in Hancock.
On May 18, 1983, he was united in marriage to the former Lempi Ohtonen/Wiinikka.
Mr. Heikkinen was a veteran being drafted in the United States Army during World War II. He served in European Theatre of Operation in Field Artillery.
Henry had worked in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps.) Camps and on the Great Lakes on several boats. He was then a foundry worker, for the Calumet & Hecla Mine, Cleveland Cliffs Mine, Allis Chamber, Wisconsin Heat Treat, American Motor Company and for several years for the White Pine Mine from where he retired.
He was a member of F.O.E. Aerie #1122 of South Range and was an avid bowler, bowling twice a week up until a few months ago.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and siblings, Einard (died in World War II), Elmer, Bertha Macewicz, & Esther Brassaw.

His children: Barbara (Ralph) Raffaelli of South Range
Diane (George) Linicus of South Hampton, Conn.
Kathleen (Dean) Pearson of Ontonagon
June (Al) Larsh of Ishpeming
His brother: Wilbert (Shirley) Heikkinen of Oshkosh, WI
His sister: Vieno Macewicz of Bloomington, MN
His sister-in-law: Viola Heikkinen of Snohomish, WA
Several nieces, nephews, and cousins
As requested, a graveside memorial service for Henry will be held later this spring in the Oskar Cemetery.
Henry’s family would like to thank the staff of Cypress Manor Nursing Home, Dr. Sigurds Janners and Staff, the Staff and residents of Lakeview Manor, the Hancock Transit Service and Neil’s Taxi for all of their care and assistance given to Henry.
