Anchorage, Alaska
Mary S. (Daavettila) Robinson, 49, a former resident of Houghton and presently of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away Monday June 8, 2009, at the Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.
She was born on July 13, 1959, in Hinsdale, Illinois, the daughter of Donald and Charlotte (Lassila) Daavettila. As a child, she moved with her family to make her home in Houghton. Mary was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1977. She also graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
Ms. Robinson had worked as a Registered Nurse for Portage View Hospital locally, and also in Texas, Hawaii, and for over the past twenty years in Alaska, mostly in the birthing centers. She also was a medical person for a crab fishing fleet in Dutch Harbor, Aleutian Islands. Mary also developed and marketed a thermal heat package for patients.
She kept a lifetime connection to the First Apostolic Lutheran Church. Mary loved the sport of hockey and ice skating, she was the highest ranking female official for hockey in the state of Alaska, and continued to play until her health would not allow her to. She also loved to teach people young and old to skate.

Funeral services for Mary will be held 11 am Friday June 12, 2009, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday June 11, 2009, from 4 to 8 pm at the first Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton and on Friday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
