Dollar Bay
Viola S. Palosaari, 94, a former resident of Dollar Bay passed away early Wednesday morning July 22, 2009, at Our Lady of Mercy Convalescent Home in Hubbell where she had been a resident patient for over the past 6 years.
She was born on September 3, 1914, in Baltic, MI, a daughter of the late Joel and Edna (Kemppainen) Keranen. As a child, she attended the Baltic School.
Viola was united in marriage to Niilo Rantala and he preceded her in death in 1957. Viola was then united in marriage to Harold E. Palosaari and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1971.
Mrs. Palosaari had worked as a housekeeper for various families in the Trimountain and South Range areas.
Viola was a member of First Lutheran Church of Dollar Bay, a member of Bay Post # 6028 VFW Auxiliary of Dollar Bay, and was also active with the Leisure Time Group.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, her parents, her brothers Wilho and Wilbert, and her sister, Gertrude Aho.
Surviving are:
Her son: Jack (Lisa) Palosaari of Torch Lake Township
Her granddaughter: Madison Palosaari of Torch Lake Township
Her brother: Carl Keranen of Hancock
Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Viola will be held 4 pm Friday July 24, 2009, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Nicholas Hopman to officiate. Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday July 24, 2009, from 3 pm until time of services at the funeral home.
