Point Mills
Ruth Binoniemi, 90, a resident of Pointe Mills, passed away Tuesday April 12, 2011, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient since this past January.
She was born October 12, 1920, in Chassell, a daughter of the late Thomas and Maggie (Saari) Maatta. Ruth was a graduate of the Chassell Schools. Following school, she had done domestic work before moving with her sister to the Detroit area. She then had worked for Packard Motors, building motors for airplanes during World War II.
Ruth returned to the Copper Country and on October 11, 1947, she was united in marriage to Henry Binoniemi. The couple moved to Pointe Mills, where Ruth has resided until becoming a patient at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
Mrs. Binoniemi had also worked locally for Lake Superior Fisheries as a Fish Dresser for many years.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Dollar Bay. Ruth enjoyed cooking for family get togethers. Spending time outdoors with her husband Henry cutting & splitting wood, and Fishing.
Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her brothers, Peter, Thomas John, Carl, and her sisters, Dorothy Binoniemi and Esther Rimpela.
Surviving are:
Her children: Gary (Amanda) Binoniemi of Dollar Bay
Karen Adams of South Haven, MI
Lou Binoniemi of Commerce Township, MI
Her grandchildren: Amanda Binoniemi, Lance Binoniemi, and Don Adams
Her sister: Ellen Anderson of Hancock
Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins
Funeral services for Ruth will be held 1 pm Saturday April 16, 2011, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Nicholas Hopman to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Saturday April 16, 2011 from 12 noon until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to First Lutheran Church of Dollar Bay in memory of Ruth Binoniemi.
