Meredith-Clark Funeral Home has had a rich and full history through the years. The current owner, William J. Meredith acquired the funeral home in the late 1970's from Mr. Pat Myers, who owned and operated Hathaway-Myers Funeral Home in Columbus, Indiana. Mr. Myers purchased the funeral home in 1974 as an investment and sent Mr. Meredith (who was a licensed funeral director working for Mr. Myers in Columbus) to Morgantown to manage and operate the then named Myers-Clark Funeral Home. After several years managing the funeral home an becoming acquainted with the community, Mr. William Meredith decided to purchase the funeral home from Mr. Myers. That was accomplished in 1980 and it was renamed Meredith-Clark Funeral Home.

Prior to that, like many other funeral homes in rural areas, the original funeral home started out in the early 1900’s and continued on to current. The history that can be confirmed starts with a Mr. Tom Watson who owned the funeral home located downtown Morgantown where now stand the local Kathy’s Café. Sometime during the 1940’s, the funeral home moved across the street where there is now a nursing home. In the 1950’s, the funeral home was purchased from Mr. Tom Watson by a Mr. & Mrs. Emerson Clark. They moved the funeral home from its existing place to their home on the east side of Morgantown. Since most funerals took place in the home at that time, the Clarks built on a small chapel for visitations and funerals.

With the death of Mr. Emerson Clark, the funeral home was left to his son, Mr. Richard Clark. He went on to tear the old funeral home down and built what is now the current facility during the late 1960’s. Mr. Richard Clark went on to sell the family business in 1974 to Mr. Pat Myers. This later became Meredith-Clark Funeral Home located at 179 East Mulberry Street in Morgantown, Indiana.

The funeral home continues today under the same name and family atmosphere. Mr. William Meredith’s son, Mr. James Meredith has joined the business as a licensed funeral director and they continue to serve the families of Morgan, Johnson, and Brown Counties.
