Lester “Runt” Long, age 90 passed away Tuesday evening, May 19, 2009 at Greenwood Health & Living Community in Greenwood. He was a resident of Trafalgar.

Lester was born July 24, 1918, in Bloomington to the late William and Arike (Barnett) Long. He married his devoted wife of sixty-one years Iva Ellen (Rainwater) Long on December 20, 1947 at the Morgantown United Methodist Church. She survives.

Lester served his county as a Technician Fifth Grade with Battery B 862nd Field Artillery Battalion of the United State Army during World War II.
He retired in 1987 as a Repairman for Indiana Bell after 29 years of service in Brown County.
Lester was a 50 year member of the Morgantown Masonic Lodge, Morgantown Eastern Star and 50 year member of the Morgantown Christian Church. He was President of the Morgantown Town Board during the 1960’s, past member of the Morgantown Lions Club and a former member of the Martinsville American Legion. During the 1960's, Lester was one of the original founders of the Morgantown Little League baseball.
He enjoyed working on his family farm raising Hereford & Angus Cattle and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana University Basketball. He was also a great fan of the Indianapolis 500

Lester was a loving father to Sue Ann VanSickle of Greenwood, Randy and his wife, Karen, Long of Franklin & Johnny and his wife Joyce, Long of Trafalgar. He was a cherished grandfather by Jason, Bryon & Tracy Long, Todd & Tory VanSickle and Erica Charriere. Lester was an inspiration to his great grandchildren: Kaitlin, Ava, Anna, Cole, Caleb, Alivia and Austin.

He was preceded in death by six sisters: Lois Joan Fleener, Lucille Smith, Laura Russ, Mary Birch & Betty Ham and Jessie Fritch; five brothers:, Lillard “Buck” Long, Chester Long, Ivan Long, James Long, Brother & Robert Long.

The Rev. Steve Fair will conduct a funeral service 10 am Saturday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with Military Graveside Rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.

The Morgantown Masonic Lodge #358 will conduct a Masonic Service 7:00 pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
