Iva Ellen (Rainwater) Long, passed away in her 86th year on Sunday afternoon, August 2, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Trafalgar. Iva was born September 14, 1922 in Morgantown to Leroy and Edna (Tracy) Rainwater. She married her loving husband of sixty-one years Lester “Runt” Long on December 20, 1947 in Morgantown. She will be greatly missed, lovingly remembered and always in the hearts of her children: Sue Ann VanSickle of Greenwood, Randy and his wife, Karen Long of Franklin and Johnny and his wife, Joyce Long of Trafalgar. Iva was a devoted grandmother to Jason, Bryon & Tracy Long, Todd & Tory VanSickle and Erica Charriere. And an inspiration to her great grandchildren: Kaitlin, Ava, Anna, Cole, Caleb, Alivia and Austin. Iva was preceded in death by her husband: Lester “Runt” Long on May 19, 2009, her parents: Leroy and Edna Rainwater; two sisters: Dorothy Mae Rainwater & Marybelle Fesler and one brother: Jonnie Rainwater. She was a 1940 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to receive a degree in Business from the Central Indiana Business College in 1942. Iva began her career working as a Benefits Clerk for the Indiana Employment Security Division in the 1940’s. She left there in 1965 to work as a Supervisor at the Camp Atterbury Job Corps Center. She then left there in 1978 to work as a Payroll Clerk with the Indiana State Auditors Office, where she retired in 2003 at the age of 80. During her life, she compiled over 40 years of service with the State of Indiana. She received the “Honorary Auditor of the State” award in 2003. She was a 53 year member of the First Christian Church of Morgantown and a 64 year charter member of the Morgantown Eastern Star where she was Past Worthy Matron. Iva was also a charter member of the Morgantown Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority. She enjoyed reading romance novels, playing on the computer and working in her flower gardens. Iva loved spending time with her grandchildren and was a fan of Indiana University Basketball, Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts. The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service 10 am Friday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
