Ernestine L. (Noel) Burns, age 96 passed away Friday morning, September 4, 2009 at Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. She was a resident of Brown County.

Ernestine was born May 13, 1913 in Owen County to the late Cecil and Sara Ann (McIntosh) Noel. She married Conrad Burns on October 3, 1931 in Martinsville. Conrad preceded her in death after 46 loving years on October 16, 1977.

Survivors include one daughter: Janice Allison of Bean Blossom; one brother: Wesley Noel of Mooresville; two sisters: Mary Bradley of Franklin & Lois Bullock of Rushville; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Joyce Ann Burns; one son: Jackie Burns; four brothers: Chester, Maxwell, Wilford & Winford Noel; and one grandson.

Ernestine worked in the Cafeteria at Union School in Johnson County as a cook from 1949 to 1957. After retirement she worked at Murphy's Department Store in Franklin for 3 years.
She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. Ernestine enjoyed quilting, sewing and cooking for her family.

The Rev. Ed Tharpe will conduct a funeral service 10 am Wednesday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Centennial Cemetery in Martinsville.
