| | | Richmondville- Leslie “Jr.” C. Bailey, 79, of Main Street, died Friday, October 30, 2009 at his residence with his family at his side.
Born August 9, 1930 in Summit, NY, he was a son of Leslie and Mildred (Greely) Bailey. Jr. was a farmer all his life, from dairy to livestock.
He retired after twenty-three years of being a bus driver for the former Richmondville Central School and then Cobleskill Richmondville Central School. He was a member of the Richmondville Rural Cemetery Association and a former member of Schoharie Valley Hayshakers.
Jr. was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. In the past few years he produced maple syrup.
He was predeceased by a brother, William Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley J. (Schrader) Bailey, whom he married April 21, 1957; two daughters: Vicki (James) Swartout of Richmondville, and Lisa (Robert) Hyatt of Richmondville; his siblings: Ellen Kilian of Stuyvesant, NY, Kenneth Bailey of Willoughby, OH, and Joan Shaver of Richmondville; a granddaughter, Heather Rivenburgh and her children, Desiree, Logan, and Trinity; and a grandson: Christopher Swartout, and his children, Trenton and Trever.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Paul Messner officiating. Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
