Military Rites by
Ayrshire American Legion

Harry Ellsworth Stowell was born to Harry Elmer Dahlin and Elizabeth Ellen Fifer on October 20, 1930 in Brocket, North Dakota. At the age of seven, Harry was adopted by Dean and Jane Stowell. He received his education in Ayrshire graduating from Ayrshire High School in 1949.
Harry served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. St. Paul CA 73 from June 1949 until June 1950.
On January 31, 1966 Harry was united in marriage to Janice Brand in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Harry farmed in the area and later became an independent carpenter until his retirement. He was a member of the Ayrshire American Legion and was a past treasurer for the N.F.O.
Harry will be remembered as one of the best finish carpenters in Palo Alto County. He could pick up a piece of wood blindfolded and tell what kind of tree it came from simply by the smell and feel of the wood. Harry was also an avid Yankees fan.
Harry died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his birth parents and his life parents, Dean and Jane Stowell; two brothers, Stanley and Howard Dahlin; and a sister, Dorothy Oihus.
He is survived by his wife, Janice of Ayrshire, IA; his children, Mary Lynne Buren (Lindy) of Sanborn, IA, Harry Eugene Stowell (Gene) of Ames, IA, Virginia Lee Kerr (Ginger) of Hartley, IA and Richard Dean Stowell (Rick) of Gilbert, IA; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Jack Stowell of Spirit Lake, IA; sisters, Doris Englund of St. Cloud, MN and Helen Hauck of New Hope, MN; as well as many friends in Ayrshire and the surrounding communities.
